A New Favorite in the Yahoo! Race

February 7th, 2008

While the news of a possible Microsoft/Yahoo! acquisition/merger has been on the front page of every periodical including every Blog on the planet, I’d like to add my 2 cents with linking to this article from Information Week - kudos to Stephen Wellman for a thought-provoking article on why Nokia should buy Yahoo! without thinking another second.  I’m in favor - anyone else?

Oprah and Obama, sitting in a tree….

December 8th, 2007

I realize this post has nothing to do with podcasting or social media per se, but I cannot resist the opportunity.  Oprah is telling us that we should vote for Barak Obama.  Now, here is the woman who’s due diligence was SO lacking that she recommended that we should buy James Frey’s book “A Million Little Pieces” and then had to issue an embarassed apology to the world for not doing her homework.  I wonder if she’s upgraded her homework this time or do we have the same risk this time of following her emotions and not the truth?

I realize that this news (on both accounts) is not new, but the reality of the potential conflict hit me today as I read the above headline on CNN Online.

Bad Monkeys

November 17th, 2007

Just now read this story that I found on The Drudge Report regarding monkeys-gone-wild in the area of India I was in earlier this week (Assam).  I didn’t see any monkeys at all, and thankfully I am not missing anything from my luggage (as far as I know!).  My cell phones are still attached to me and I didn’t have any open Coke cans at the time.  Whew!

Technical problems

We’ve been on the tarmac for 30 min so far and cannot board. I’m thinking I wouldn’t recommend this airline to anyone. Phil, is it too late to change my ticket?

Update:  It took us 2 hours to get off the ground (1.5 on the tarmac - either in the bus or waiting on the ground next to the plane) and then when returning from Dibrugarh, India to catch a connecting flight on KingFisher Airlines to Hyderbad, the Jet Lite flight was 2 hours late (and the only airline flying that day from the one room airport at Dibrugarh), so I missed the flight to Hyderbad.  Had to buy a new ticket from Jet Airways to get back to Delhi so that I could arrive in Hyderbad without missing a whole day.   By the way, this was not Phil’s fault.  He booked the ticket I told him to book on this one :-) , in order to fly with my ministry partners - they get the blame for the choice!!

Great

Always fun to fly an airline with “lite” in the name.  As you’ll see above, it lived up to it’s name.  No wonder Air Sahara (it’s former name) is no longer part of the American Airlines list of partners……as of November 15, 2007.

The Street Corner

This corner is one I’ve now traveled past on every trip to and from the International and Domestic airports in Delhi. It always catches my eye -  it always strikes me to see big brand names in a poverty stricken area.  But, that is India to the core.
